Since immigrating to the United States from Tanzania in 1987, Rose Luangisa has made it her mission to spread the beauty and richness of African culture across the country while simultaneously supporting African artisans. Rose founded Luangisa Art Gallery in Mount Vernon to showcase African cultural artifacts. And, as a way to build community and unite Mount Vernon around African tradition, Luangsia Art Gallery launched the Wakanda Celebration. Saturday, September 4th, marks the fourth year of the Wakanda Celebration, offering an opportunity for everyone to spend a day immersed in African culture and learn more about various traditions, music, artifacts, dance, and meet local community organizations. We are proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of this year’s Wakanda Celebration!
“The Wakanda Celebration is a way for us to acknowledge African culture and directly support artisans in Africa. That’s the purpose of all this,” says Rose.
In addition to supporting artisans in Africa, the Wakanda Celebration supports local artists and community members by showcasing their art and services. From 10 AM- 8 PM, attendees will learn more about wearable art through the “Luangisa Wakanda Wearable Art Experience.” Participants can also shop for beautiful home decor, African art, hand-woven baskets, enjoy African food, and much more. Though the Wakanda Celebration is an event that celebrates African culture, everyone is welcome.
As the platinum sponsor for the Wakanda Celebration, we are very proud and grateful to support Rose and her growing Mount Vernon community. We invite you to join us Saturday, September 4th starting at 10 AM! Bring your families and friends and stop by our table to say hello!
