REB SPORTS COMPLEX: Let the Games Begin

“When I first started, I didn’t have the business history to secure a traditional bank loan. Community Capital New York was there for me. I am so grateful for this opportunity.”

SUPPORT PROVIDED: Small Business Loan and QuickBooks Training

IMPACT: Minority-owned business, one full-time and one part-time job created or retained

“I’ve been playing soccer for as long as I can remember” says Barcelona born Ricardo Esquiva. So imagine how he felt when an old furniture warehouse measuring 18,000 square feet became available in Pelham Manor. Having operated and managed his family’s auto detailing business for most of his professional life, this was his chance to take that business acumen and pair it with his lifelong passion. “As a recreational player myself, I know there are very few indoor, turf fields in Westchester” says Esquiva. He adds “as year-round league play for kids and adults continues to grow, there’s opportunity to capitalize on strong demand for a comfortable, well maintained turf facility.”

“When I first started, REB Sports didn’t have the business history to secure a traditional bank loan” noted Esquiva. But through an on-line search of business lenders in Westchester he thankfully connected with Julieta McPherson, Vice President of Lending at Community Capital New York. A small business loan helped fund start-up expenses and literally lay the foundation — a turf field — for the launch of REB Sports Complex. In the coming year, several local youth soccer leagues have already secured space at REB Sports.  “We are also hosting open play time, organizing monthly adult leagues and marketing REB Sports to lacrosse, softball and other team sports – really anything that is played on grass.”
