Your Partner First, Lender Second.
Whether you want to start your own business in the Hudson Valley or support working families and vulnerable populations through affordable housing and high-impact community development projects throughout New York State, we are here to partner with you on your path to success.
Connecting Capital.
Building Prosperity.
Transforming Neighborhoods.
At Community Capital New York, we believe in an inclusive and equitable economy where all people can build wealth and contribute to a productive and thriving economy.
By providing capital to small businesses throughout the Hudson Valley and affordable housing developers across New York State, we create pathways to social justice, wealth-building, and resilient neighborhoods.
A critical part of our mission is to prioritize our lending to people who have faced challenges getting funding from traditional financial institutions. Specifically, this includes People of Color, women, veterans, people from rural areas, entrepreneurs with lower incomes, and nonprofit affordable housing developers. However, our services and loans are available for everyone ready to achieve their business and community revitalization goals.
Lending With a Human-Centered & Relational Approach
We know that no two company trajectories are the same.
In fact, 87% of our borrowers are still in business four years after receiving a loan, compared to the national average of 50%.
Our Process & Offerings:
- We work to understand your unique operations and help to support you to obtain the funding and resources you need to succeed.
- Each business loan is coupled with free business training and consulting. We know that the addition of one-to-one entrepreneurial guidance contributes to higher business success rates.
- Our services and loan products are offered in English and Spanish, and we have bilingual loan officers. Meet Fernando Ahumada and Julieta McPherson here.
Supporting Start-Ups and Sole Proprietors
Unlike some traditional financial institutions, we love supporting start-ups, including sole proprietors who wish to grow and expand. After all, small businesses are an essential component of thriving communities, social justice, and fair wealth-building. That’s why we prioritize lending for small businesses with five or fewer employees.
As your trusted guide, we help you along the entrepreneurial journey. If we can’t offer you a solution, we have access to a network that can help.
Deploying Capital to High-Impact Community Development Projects
Affordable housing developers across the Hudson Valley and New York State are making strides to improve the communities we call home. We’re dedicated to providing capital to these developers throughout each stage of the development process, from pre-development to construction. As a result, we partner with developers to create more equitable communities.
Over 32 Years of Community Impact
With over three decades of lending experience, we partner with our borrowers sharing the same goals and work alongside of them to ensure their success.

Our History
Community Capital New York was established in 1989 as part of a United Way task force to fund fair and affordable housing solutions in Westchester Country and the Hudson Valley. Since then, we have provided over $26 million in low-cost, often unsecured pre-development loans and gap financing to foster the creation of over 4,900 affordable homes for 13,000 area residents who earn 80% or less of the area median income.
In 2003, we expanded our operations and began working with entrepreneurs. In 2007, we received the SBA certification to offer small business loans as an SBA-preferred lender. Over the last 15 years, we have extended over $11 million in loans and credit builder products to over 550 start-ups and existing businesses that have created or retained over 5,700 jobs throughout the Hudson Valley. Our loans are paired with free, ongoing guidance, financial coaching, and business training services to ensure sustainable results, economic self-sufficiency, jobs for the community, neighborhood revitalization, and tax revenues for our municipalities.
